Gee, doesn’t this 2020 look an awful lot like 1920? To ring in the new year, Marjorie had the honor of traveling back in time to the Art Deco Society of California’s annual Member Appreciation Party on January 11. And what a glamorous night it was!
The Art Deco Society of California is a not-for-profit membership organization that celebrates, preserves and promotes the art, architecture, music, and design of the Art Deco era. This year’s evening soirée was held on a crisp night at The Bellevue Club, a grand six-story chateau on the twinkling shores of Oakland’s Lake Merritt.
The stunning French-style venue was a picture in itself, and the event’s two floors were accented with refreshments to graze, styles to admire, and good company to meet.
An indoor balcony overlooked a cozy, curtained salon on one side. On the other, a grand ballroom buzzed with the rhythms of the Hot Baked Goods, a jazz band who played a foot-tapping set of 20s and 30s tunes.
With the flowing wine and a dance floor sparkling with beaded gowns and tuxedos, you could say we were really putting on the Ritz… er, the Bellevue, of course!
If you’re interested in attending an event like this one, the Art Deco Society of California’s events are open to the public. You can also look for Art Deco, Gatsby, or Roaring 20s events in your local area!
As the party drew to a close, we had our last sip of wine, one last dance, and headed out into the late night air with stars in our eyes and a swing in our step. Wasn’t it a swell evening, indeed!
